I was genuinely thrilled about diving into the world of content creation, community building, and exploring the true essence of influencing people. I discussed my aspirations with my husband, who encouraged me to pursue something I enjoyed while involving our family in the process. Even my therapist saw it as a wonderful outlet for creativity. However, reality hit hard when I discovered that crafting content, fostering a community, and driving engagement were far more challenging than I initially anticipated.
The influencer space proved to be saturated, and finding a niche became a struggle. Initially drawn to the idea of becoming a mommy influencer, I then attempted to narrow down to “Only Child Mom” and eventually transitioned to general lifestyle influencing. Unfortunately, I failed at all these attempts.
The root of my failure lay in my pursuit of perfection, veering away from authenticity. I observed other influencers using expensive equipment, editing photos to magazine-like standards, and portraying an idyllic family life. As time passed, I realized that these perfectly curated images and coordinated family outfits lacked authenticity.
I came to the realization that I didn’t want every moment of my life to be content, and I wasn’t prepared for the negativity that could arise from sharing my family so intimately. The pressure to maintain a flawless image wasn’t for me. I acknowledged that I wasn’t mature enough to handle negativity directed at my loved ones without responding negatively myself.
Through my social media journey, I witnessed influencers promoting products without genuine belief in or knowledge of their effects. I recognized that authenticity mattered to me, and I wanted to be true to myself in every space I occupied.
Now liberated from the burdens of social media influencing, I’ve found immense joy in embracing authenticity. I refuse to be enslaved by algorithms or succumb to the judgments of others. Here’s to reclaiming the fun in social media, free from the flood of sponsored ads and commercials.
Comment with your thoughts on authenticity in social media or share a moment when you decided to be true to yourself. Let’s create a community that celebrates real stories and rejects the cookie-cutter expectations. Cheers to being genuine and relishing the simple joy of sharing real, unfiltered moments!
