Reconnecting in Puerto Rico

The past few months have been different for my marriage. I can tell we are in a phase where we are stretching to grow but the stretching is exhausting and frustrating. Dom’s business is changing and growing (just as God promised) but he’s busier than ever. I’m working full-time and even after hours, with dozens of fertility appointments and everything else life brings. So sometimes we are passing one another as we go about our busy schedules. You could imagine how unhealthy that can be for any relationship, let alone a marriage. So, we decided to take some time away from everything and reconnect in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Let’s just say I wasn’t game at first. I love trips, but I hate spending my coins. Dom on the other hand had the dates and already booked the hotel before even getting my final yes. Even though we see and sleep together every single night, being away where it was just the two of us is something every couple needs to reconnect and recharge. We spent the last six days, five nights with no alarms, no schedules, falling asleep from the sounds of the ocean, full bellies and lots of laughter.

Reconnecting as a couple is important. Just to rekindle the very thing that made us fall in love and do this thing called life together. Don’t allow busy schedules and the stressors of life let you forget what’s most important. For a moment we were. Busy, busy, busy but not spending the time with needed to enjoy. Let’s just say I’m recharged and ready to do life with Dom a little longer.

Fun things to do in Puerto Rico:

  1. Take a guided tour of the rainforest.
    • A guided tour by a tour company gives all the history
    • If you get car sick be prepared for the winding roads through the rainforest
    • I don’t see any snakes, so I was calm the entire time
  2. Visit the Bacardi Factory
    • Be sure to eat a full meal before you go, you will have more than 4 drinks in a 60 minute time span
  3. Visit Old San Juan
    • Be sure to down Fortaleza Street close the Governor’s mansion with all the beautiful umbrellas
    • Take a tour through the Fort
    • Visit the shops
    • Eat dinner at Raices

  1. Well said! A vacation is always needed with a busy life! Sometimes it’s good to just relax and do nothing.

  3. It’s very important in a marriage to just spend some good ole quality time with each other. Our lives become so busy and we tend to forget about the main reason why we fell in love in the beginning!!

    1. So true. I don’t think people understand it. They are too busy trying to get to the money, then they wonder why their marriages fall apart.
