In the past I was never a writer. Actually I hated writing because I didn’t feel like my grammar was up to par or I had much to say. But in 2015, I bought myself a journal and intentionally started writing my prayers. It became my personal journal to God where I would talk to him about any and everything. Although this didn’t replace my verbal prayers it did give me something to tangibly touch, something I could carry in my purse/suitcase that I knew God and I had time together. (No the journal does not replace my Bible) – that disclaimer was for the super saved saints.
In 2017 I became more dependent on my journal with God. More dependent because I felt like my life was going through the worst. Everything point of my life had issues from my family, marriage, job, friends and even my self esteem. I felt like I was drowning. I ain’t even going to lie, I wasn’t reading my word like I should, praying like I should or going to church like I should. I was just out here doing my own thing. Thinking I could fix my own problems, until one day I was cleaning and found one of my old journals. A journal where I talked to God immensely. I started at page one and read every single page. EVERY SINLGE PAGE. I read about all the things I asked God to change in my life. Reading those pages brought me though. Every single thing I wrote in that journal that God knew I needed, he provided. Even the things I prayed/journaled that wasn’t part of his will for my life he made clear. I actually chuckled at some of the things I asked God for that didn’t come to past. Chileeeeee… I ain’t need those headaches and stress. I’m so glad he shielded me from that foolishness.
I said all that to say writing in my journal and re-reading my prayers allowed me not forget where God brought me from. It was almost like having vivid pictures of his faithfulness and mercies. It helped me to remember that even when you are between asking and receiving from God that he reveals new parts of him to us.
