2024 has been nothing short of a hair journey for me. Normally, I’ve got my hairstyles planned out for the whole year because, let’s be real, as a Black woman, you have to plan your hair in advance. Between scheduling appointments and prepping, it’s a whole thing.
But earlier this year, I started having some major scalp issues. I was dealing with excessive dandruff, and it was beyond frustrating. Ya’ll, it was real deal embarrassing—most of it was right on my hairline, too. So, I decided to see an amazing Black woman dermatologist, and she officially diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis. She prescribed a medicated shampoo for weekly washes and an ointment to apply daily. Just like that, my scalp started getting better, and now my hair is the healthiest and most hydrated it’s ever been. Taking care of my hair and scalp has become a priority.
Because of the dermatitis, I’ve kept it simple with my natural hair this year—think braids tucked under glueless wigs, mini twists, and a slick-back ponytail every now and then.
This whole experience has taught me to be more patient with myself and to prioritize my self-care. I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself this year, striving to be the best version of me. I know I’ve been a little quiet lately, but trust me, I’m here, thriving, and focused on my growth.
With all that said, ya girl is planning to get some fresh braids for my birthday trip, and I’m excited!
